I’m not exaggerating when I say that my son loves trains. We’ve taken him on the Polar Express in Williams, AZ for the last two years.
And the theme for his 3rd birthday party was Thomas the Tank Engine.
So anytime we hear about events that have trains, we try to make them a priority.
Which brings me to this weekend. Once a year, the Tucson Garden Railway Society hosts the Rails in the Garden Tour This is the first year we attended the event, and because we enjoyed it all so much, I think we are going to make it a yearly tradition. Essentially, collectors in Tucson have open houses, showcasing their train collections. There is not a specific fee for admission, although you can make a cash donation to the Tucson Community Food Bank and the Tucson Garden Railway Society’s community projects.
There are several homes on the tour. And they don’t have simple train collections – most are extremely elaborate, with different types of themes. I’ll let the pictures do the talking because frankly, I don’t think words would do it justice.
It’s definitely worth checking out, and if you are interested in attending the tours next year, be sure to enter your email address on their website for future notification!
