I recently began reading books written by Karin Slaughter and quickly became a fan her writing style. So much that when I was given the opportunity to review The Good Daughter, her latest release, I didn’t hesitate. I enjoyed the book so much that I hard time putting it down. And I ended up reading it in two days. Have you ever read a book that you enjoyed so much, that you were sad once you finished reading it because there weren’t any more pages to read? That’s how I felt about The Good Daughter.
There are several things that I enjoyed about The Good Daughter. First and foremost, the storyline is extremely character driven. The book is primarily about two sisters who are completely different: Charlotte (Charlie) and Sam (Samantha). Their father is a local criminal defense attorney and has made several enemies due to some of the clients that he represents. Charlie and Sam largely go their separate ways after their mother is killed in front of them but both women become attorneys like their father, although Charlie mostly represents juveniles and Sam practices law that is completely unrelated to criminal law. There are several twists and turns throughout the book and part of it is revealed through flashbacks. While The Good Daughter is a psychological thriller, it is also a legal thriller. There are also two different storylines – the murder of their mother and the murder of a young girl at school. Some of the scenes are graphic, so you’ll want to keep that in mind if you get squeamish.
While the book is a psychological thriller, it’s also about relationships: the relationship between the two sisters, the relationship between both women and their father, and the relationship between both women and their mother. For those of you who are still on the fence, included below is a synopsis of the book, as well as an excerpt. And don’t forget to enter the giveaway to win a copy of your own!

The stunning new novel from the international #1 bestselling author — a searing, spellbinding blend of cold-case thriller and psychological suspense.
