I recently wrote about our recent trip to Disneyland, and briefly mentioned our time spent in Downtown Disney. But I thought now would be a good time to expand on our favorite restaurant and store.
A trip to Disneyland is not complete without eating at least once at Tortilla Jo’s. My favorite food is Mexican and I could seriously eat a burrito everyday and never get tired of it. Luckily, I live in Arizona 😉 As far as I can tell, there is only one Tortilla Jo’s, and it’s in Downtown Disney. The restaurant is very kid friendly, which is one of the reasons why we like going there. And not only is the food delicious, but my son enjoys the balloons.
Just like his mom, he loves chips and salsa (the salsa wasn’t spicy and we made sure he didn’t eat too much of it).
I read somewhere that brunch is available on the weekends and I’d like to try that out someday. We usually try to go to the restaurant when it’s not as busy, but during our last visit it was unavoidable – our drive from Tucson to Anaheim took a lot longer than usual due to getting stuck in traffic. By the time we checked into our hotel, it was peak time for dinner. Once we arrived at the restaurant we were told that the wait could take as long as 45 minutes! However, they said they could send us a text message when a table was ready so we headed to the World of Disney for shopping. The wait ended up not being too bad since we were able to walk around, but if you have “hungry” people with you, that could put a damper on things. So if you do plan a visit, try to pick a time (if you can), that isn’t during the peak times for eating.
The store that my son absolutely loved, and that we visited for the first time, was Ridemakerz. In the past, we’ve taken him to Build a Bear, which is a classic favorite. But, he’s now he’s into trucks and cars, and the basic concept at Ridemakerz is similar to that at build a bear. Essentially, you pick the body of the car/truck you want, and from there, you can add to it, like tires. Once you’ve picked everything you want, you can build your own car.
An employee is there to help out (especially since the building of the car requires the use of a drill), and to ensure that the car is working.
As you can see, my son was very excited with his monster truck.
And as a parent, I like that there are many options available – while everything can add up and get expensive, we skipped some of the upgrades and still got a pretty cool monster truck, complete with flashing lights and sounds. I “encouraged” my son to get the Disneyland 60 special edition since I thought it would be a great momento of the trip 😉 And after a day at the park, he couldn’t wait to go back to the hotel and play with the monster truck.
