5 Reasons to Watch Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe

Phineas and Ferb The Move:  Candace Against the Universe will be available to stream on Disney Plus on August 28, 2020.  Based on a popular animated series that ran on the Disney Channel for several years, the movie follows Phineas and Ferb and friends as they try to rescue Phineas and Ferb’s sister, Candace, from aliens.  Prior to watching this Disney Plus original movie, my family and I weren’t familiar with the series.  However, it turned out to be a fun movie to watch as a family!  As a result, here are several reasons to watch Phineas and Ferb The Movie:  Candace Against the Universe.

5 Reasons to Watch Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe

It’s a long running gag in the series that Candace is always trying to get her brothers in trouble.  In Candace Against the Universe, Candace (voiced by Ashley Tisdale) is abducted by aliens and Phineas (voiced by Vincent Martella), Ferb (voiced by David Errigo Jr) and their friends set out to save her.  My almost 8 year old son has never watched the series.  But he’s now a fan after watching the movie.  Below are the reasons why!

The movie is kid friendly.

The movie is rated TV-G which means that it’s suitable for all ages.  There isn’t any use of profanity or sexually suggestive scenes (although one character asks how his butt looks).  However, there is some violence; for example, some of the characters’ torsos explode and one of the characters is eaten by a giant plant (but survives).  Also, one of the characters references killing a chicken.  However, overall, it’s intentionally done in a comedic way so it’s not jarring.

It’s very funny.

From Star Trek parody to visual comedy, this movie has the rare ability to appeal to both adults and children.  One of my favorite visual gags involved a chicken and a ray gun, and the end result is not what you expect.  The movie also has fun adult versus kids gags and it should be no surprise which side gets the edge 😉

It has a catchy musical score.

The movie starts with Candace singing a song and that sets the tone for the rest of the movie.  There are several original songs in the movie, which surprised me in a good way.  My son is also a fan of movies that play catchy songs, so this was a win in our book!

You don’t need to be familiar with the series in order to enjoy watching the movie.

If you and your family are not familiar with the series, don’t let that deter you from watching the movie.  My son wasn’t born yet when Phineas and Ferb first made its debut on the Disney Channel and he was too young to watch the series before it concluded its run.  This movie is a great introduction not only for my son, but also for me and my husband.  However, if you are a fan of the series, I think you will be pleased as well, since it seems to stay true with its original premise.

It has a great message.

While the movie is funny, it had a sweet message.  Candace always felt overshadowed by her brothers, ignored by her parents, and didn’t feel that she was special.  However, she comes to the realization that her family and friends love her the way she is.

About Phineas and Ferb The Movie:  Candace Against the Universe

Stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb, their older sister Candace, Perry the Platypus and the Danville gang are back together again in “Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe,” an out-of-this-world animated adventure from Disney Television Animation. Executive-produced by Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh (creators and executive producers of the long-running Emmy Award-winning series “Phineas and Ferb”), the movie centers on Phineas and Ferb as they set out across the galaxy to rescue Candace, who after being abducted by aliens, finds utopia in a far-off planet, free of pesky little brothers.
