7 Fun Facts About A Week Away on Netflix

A Week Away, a faith-based musical, will be coming to Netflix on March 26, 2021.  Do you want to know more about the movie, like where it was filmed?  Or which actress co-produced the movie?  If so, keep reading to find out all that and more.  Here are 7 fun facts about A Week Away on Netflix!

7 Fun Facts About A Week Away on Netflix

Netflix is always surprising me with its diverse lineup of movies, including A Week Away, which is not a typical musical.  Not only does it have a catchy soundtrack, but it also takes place primarily at a Christian summer camp.  My parents guide will be published soon but in the meantime, I recently had the opportunity to participate in virtual interviews for the movie.  Not only did I interview Bailee Madison and Kevin Quinn (who play Avery and Will), but I also interviewed Jahbril Cook and Kat Conner Sterling (who play George and Presley).  Without further ado, here are 7 A Week Away movie facts!

  • Bailee Madison is not only one of the main actresses in the movie, but she’s also a co-producer!  During the interview, she said she loved being part of the entire process.
  • Kevin originally auditioned for the role of a different character named Sean.  However, he asked to re-audition for the role of Will and he got the part.
  • Since the movie is a musical, Bailee, Kevin, Jahbril, and Kat all said that their favorite scenes were the musical numbers.  Kat said that her favorite song to perform was “Dive” while Jahbril said that he loved performing “Baby, Baby.”  Bailee said her favorite songs are “Good Enough” and “Let’s Go Make a Memory” and Kevin said his favorite song is “God Only Knows.”

  • While Bailee and Kevin have appeared in movies before, this is both Jahbril and Kat’s first feature film.
  • Speaking of Kat, she was notified she got the part of Presley while she was on a cruise ship.  She said it was definitely a reason to celebrate while on vacation!
  • There were a few scenes in the movie involving stunt doubles.  For example, Kevin got bronchitis during filming so a stunt double was used in some of his scenes.  As a result, you might not recognize Kevin’s shoulder in some of the scenes 🙂  There’s also a scene where Jahbril’s character, George, gets launched off an inflatable water blob and into a lake.  A stunt double was used for that particular scene, too.
  • The movie is primarily filmed at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan, near Nashville, Tennessee.  Kat said that rehearsals, filming, and music recordings were all done there.  As a result, there wasn’t a lot of downtime for the cast and crew to enjoy a lot of the amenities there.  Although the cast and crew were still able to bond with each other.

About A Week Away

Troubled teen Will Hawkins (Quinn) has a run-in with the law that puts him at an important crossroad: go to juvenile detention or attend a Christian summer camp. At first a fish-out-of-water, Will opens his heart, discovers love with a camp regular (Madison), and sense of belonging in the last place he expected to find it.
