Gaslight Theatre’s The Revengers

Summer is here and so are the laughs, thanks to the Gaslight Theatre’s latest melodrama, The Revengers!  If you’re looking forward to doing something with your family this summer in Tucson, I highly recommend watching The Revengers, a spoof of the Avengers.  My family and I were hosted by The Gaslight Theatre in exchange for a review of The Revengers, but as always, all opinions are my own.  Here’s what you need to know about the Gaslight Theatre’s spoof of the Avengers!

GASLIGHT THEATRE’S THE REVENGERS

I love Marvel and I knew the Gaslight Theatre had big shoes to fill.  But whether or not you are a fan of Marvel or superheroes in general, chances are you’ll be entertained by The Revengers.

In this particular spoof, the Universe is in danger but can be saved by superheroes like Thor, Lady Steel, and scientist Dr. Tanner aka The Bulk!  Add villains to the mix like Loki, Ruby Witch, and Zanor, and you have a recipe for madcap superhero mayhem.

I loved the musical numbers in this show, which featured songs from Michael Jackson, Queen, and Starship (guess which song, lol). The performers nail the vocals and, of course, there is the expected Gaslight variations to the song to add comic relief and fit the performance.

I would be remiss if I did not speak about the sets, costumes, and lighting. The people working behind the scenes are doing top notch work, from backgrounds featuring laboratories, spaceships, to the top of Mount Everest and props like the mysterious, and hilarious, “Energy Cube.”

The Bulk’s appearance steals every scene and makes you wonder how long it took to get his makeup completed prior to the show. All these seamlessly compliment the actors performance. The Gaslight has stepped it up in this regard recently and each show has something new to add and look forward to.

You’ll also want to stick around for the Olio afterward, featuring, the Brady Bunch. It is a great send-up of not only that show, but similar sitcoms of that era.  Not only that, but a beloved Muppet makes a guest appearance.

Here’s a little more about The Gaslight Theatre’s The Revengers:
