Dangerous Lies on Netflix: What Parents Need to Know
Dangerous Lies is about a woman named Katie (played by Camila Mendes) who becomes a caretaker for a wealthy man and ends up inheriting his estate when he’s found dead. Sounds somewhat similar to Knives Out, doesn’t it? However, that’s where the similarity ends. I loved Knives Out, and I love a good murder mystery so I watched Dangerous Lies as soon as it made its debut on Netflix. Kids and teens might be tempted to watch Dangerous Lies due the younger looking cast. However, it’s definitely not appropriate for kids and some teens. As a result, here’s what parents need to know about Dangerous Lies on Netflix.
1. Dangerous Lies is Rated TV-14
When a program is rated TV-14, it means that it contains some material that many parents would find unsuitable for children under 14 years of age. It may contain intense violence, strong coarse language, intense sexual situations, and/or intensely suggestive dialogue. Dangerous Lies covers all these categories which brings me to the second thing that parent’s need to know……..

2. Intense Violence
There’s actual and implied violence in Dangerous Lies. However, it’s not what I would describe as graphic violence. Several dead bodies are shown but it’s not as gruesome as it could be under other circumstances. There are also weapons used, including a gun, and crimes committed such as robbery, trespass, theft, and murder. If you or your family have been victims of a crime, this is something that you’d want to consider before watching the movie.
3. Profanity
There are a few curse words in Dangerous Lies, but nothing over the top like the excessive profanity in the Witcher on Netflix.
4. Sexually Suggestive Scenes
Sex is implied between Katie and Jessie (who are married) and one of the first scenes is Katie and Jessie making out in a car. There are a few other bedroom scenes involving kissing, implying that Katie and Jessie are about to have sex. There’s not any nudity, although there are a few scenes that show Katie in her underwear.
Overall Thoughts
I definitely agree with the TV-14 rating. There’s profanity, violence, and sexually suggestive scenes but the movie doesn’t cross the line to gratuitous violence, excessive profanity, and nudity. I’d think twice about allowing kids under 14 years old watch the movie, but as always, use your discretion.
As for the movie itself, I thought it was okay. It was slow moving for the most part, then seemed to rush through the ending without tying up loose ends. There are a few questions that I didn’t think were answered which, as a viewer, is frustrating. I also didn’t think that any of the characters were likable. But, with that being said, there are worse ways to spend an hour and a half of your time than watching Dangerous Lies on Netflix.

After losing her waitressing job, Katie Franklin (Camila Mendes) takes a job as a caretaker to a wealthy elderly man in his sprawling, empty Chicago estate. The two grow close, but when he unexpectedly passes away and names Katie as his sole heir, she and her husband Adam (Jessie T. Usher) are pulled into a complex web of lies, deception, and murder. If she’s going to survive, Katie will have to question everyone’s motives — even the people she loves.
