I just finished binge watching The Witcher on Netflix. The Lord of the Rings, it is not. While it’s a fantasy series, this is a series that is definitely not kid friendly. If you’re still on the fence, I’ve compiled a (spoiler free) list detailing why The Witcher is NOT appropriate for kids. From a mature audience rating with profanity to graphic violence and more, here’s what parents need to know about The Witcher on Netflix.

The Witcher on Netflix is based on a series of fantasy novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski. It’s also a popular video game. The Witcher series on Netflix contains 8 episodes and has been touted as the next Game of Thrones. I couldn’t wait to see it as soon as it made its debut on Netflix, but it’s definitely not for kids. As a result, here’s what parents need to know about The Witcher on Netflix.

1. The Witcher is Rated TV-MA

You know how movies have a film rating, like G, PG, PG-13, and R? While researching The Witcher, I realized that TV programs also have ratings. The rating for The Witcher on Netflix is rated TV-MA, which means mature audience. If you’re curious to see how Netflix decides on ratings for their movies and TV shows, click here. TV-MA is usually reserved for movies and TV shows which are suitable for adults and generally not suited for those under 17 years of age. It can contain crude language, graphic violence, and sexual content. The Witcher has all three of these categories covered! Which brings me to……

2. There’s a Lot of Graphic Violence in The Witcher

There’s a lot of violence in The Witcher. Like over the top, graphic violence. Like - I needed to close my eyes during some of the scenes. People are stabbed, organs are removed from bodies, and the list goes on and on. The Witcher hunts (and kills) monsters, but the humans are actually way worse than the monsters.

3. The Witcher Contains a Lot of Profanity

The profanity in The Witcher is off the charts. There are so many curse words, that I finally stopped counting. The Witcher might as well have his own language - and it starts with the letter F.

4. There’s a Lot of Nudity and Sexually Suggestive Scenes in The Witcher

There’s a lot of nudity and sex scenes in the series. A lot of those scenes weren’t necessary. For example, they didn’t add anything to the storyline. Even if they did, it’s still not appropriate for kids!

Overall Thoughts

The Witcher on Netflix is highly entertaining - but it’s not appropriate for kids. This is one that you’ll want to watch when the kids aren’t around. It even felt like it was TOO much at times for me. Not to mention the storyline was confusing at times. But that’s another article for another time.
